Margaret Riddle Lamb

Dear Ancestryaid,

I am trying to find out what happened to a Margaret Riddle Lamb and her son Thomas Shiel Lamb.

This is what I have so far,

Her maiden name was Blake

She was married on 5th of May 1877 in Rochdale to a George Lamb a woolsorter from Hawick, Scotland. It looks like after they were married they moved to Hawick, where on the 8th of May 1879 she gave birth to Thomas Sheil Lamb.

The next time her husband George Lamb turns up is on the 1881 cencus at Innerleithen, Peebles Scotland as a widower, a woolsorter aged 26.

What I am trying to find out, is what happened to Margaret between 1879 and 1881, where and when did she die and what happened to Thomas.

I have tried on Scotlands People to find a death record for Margaret but I've drawn a blank. Did they have a falling out and did she go back to Rochdale?

Can anyone help please?

Hi Elaine,

Thank-you very much indeed for your response to my post. It looks like Thomas went to live with his Grandparents when his mother died. His father must have thought it was the best place for him. It is very interesting to see the addresses where he was brought up in Hawick. Now all we need to find, is his mother Margaret. She is proving to be very elusive. I find it strange that there is do death record of her on Scotlands People given that she must have died in or around Hawick between 1879 when Thomas was born and his father turned up on the cencus as a widower in 1881?
