Dear Ancestry Aid,
I am trying to put together a biography of my grandfather who was a Reginald Horace Phillips. He was a merchant seaman who died when the Arthur F Corwin was destroyed by U-boats in 1941. There were about 41 other seamen on the Arthur F Corwin, who were sailing from Halifax Nova Scotia to Liverpool. My grandfather was the Second Radio Officer and he died aged 35. Now the First Radio Officer was a Harold Sydney Tate - he was aged 27 when he died on 13th February 1941. This puts him just outside the 1911 census records, but his parents have quite unusual names:
Son of Henry Arthur and Rosetta Maud Tate, of Palmer's Green, Middlesex.
He was also the husband of Gwendoline A. Tate, of Bitterne, Southampton.
I know so little about my gradfather, but presumable he and Harold Sydney Tate would have worked closely together being first and second radio officers. It would be wonderful if I could find some descendents of Harold and Gwendoline, if they had time to have children before the war.
Any help is gratefully appreciated.
Neil.
