    Exclamation Rose family research.

    Rose family research.

I have a copy of my Great Great Granddad's birth record James Rose born 14 Feb 1814 Portsea, and he lived at Frederic Street. He was registered at 03 April 1814 Saint John Parish Portsea, Hampshire . His parents are listed as James Rose and Sarah.

I have no information on the parents, except their names.

I would like any assistance that you may provide to help me move forward on the James and his wife Sarah, I understand that James worked as a Smith at the Dockyards.
    Warm regards
    Susan

    Exclamation Rose research

    Rose research.

My great great Granddad James Rose was born Portsea Feb. 14th and the registered church for the Baptism is St. John's Chapel Southampton.
His parents are listed as James and Sarah, and they lived at 15 Frederic St.

For 35 years I have been doing research, and never found any thing on these parents. Except that James was working at the dockyards as a Smith at the time of the birth.

Their son James married an Annette Emily Roseblade Donnally, and they had several children in St. Pancras. Their again no record of her birth but she is listed as Westminster. No marriage record either.
I have both of their deaths, and records on all of the children, however stumped on the pre 1814.

All of the Rose men from this time on were well educated, and became Engineers under their fathers.

Any assistance that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.

    Warm regards

    Hello ramblingrose
I have a copy of my Great Great Granddad's birth record
As certification was not inrtroduced until 1 July 1837, I presume you mean baotism record, if so is thsi the original Parish Register entry or the copy Bishops Transcript. Invariably the latter carry local notes taken at the time of the event.
How did you know that yyour ancestor may have worked at the docks as a 'Smith'?

Have you looked to see if there were any other children of trhe marriage besides James, this of course will determine the time frame to look for the marriage etc.

Found on Familysearch.org other children born to James and Sarah

George Rose 3 July 1818 Nutley Hampshire batch no I01724-7 England-Easy Film no 6344420 ref 4

Not sure if you have these already but maybe another avenue to search further family members in this tree.

    Default Rose research

Thank your for all the helpful hints.

I got a copy of the registration for the birth of James born Feb. 14th 1814 from the archives in Southampton, a few years ago.
On that document, it states that the parents were Sarah and James, and that James worked as a Smith at the dockyard. Also gave the address as Frederic Street.
I do have the information on Annette's sister and have been able to find a few of her children etc.
I also ordered the marriage for her to a Joseph Sparrowhawk, and found that their father was a George Donnally merchant in London.

I will follow up and try and get more on these other two items, that could be family members as George is a name that has been used in each generation!!

You have all been very kind

Thank you for this, I have the marriage record for Maria as I was thinking the same as you. It indicates that her father was George Donnally, and he was a merchant in London. Looking through the census I do not find him, and I find it very interesting that through each generation they carry down the Roseblade name. I have contacted someone in England that is researching the Roseblade name and he can not make a connection to me either.

Just this week, I have been able to get some information on Joshua Rose M.E. he is the son of James born in 1814. He served his indenture as did all of the boys as an engineer under his father at Ashford Works. He then went on to become an author of Mechanical Engineering books, which are still being copied and used today. He lived in Perry Vale, Forest Hill up until his death in 1898 in New York. He had a publisher in England and New York. So the family bits and pieces are coming together.
