Are you sure of the date? 1822 is before Civil Registration started in 1837.

    Ignore this correction added above.

    Hello

What else do you know about John, marriage/death and places. Could he have adopted the naem Joseph and have been a waiter?

I think it is unlikely that mother Emma married. She is desc as the d/o William & Ann SAICH
On the 1901 cenusu she is described as the single sister of Reubin SAICH b1851. She died q3 1904 Dunmow 4a 587

    Hi Elsabels,
Sorry not replied before, but have only just found your reply...not good with these forums!
Your reply has also highlighted a coincidece that had not occurred to me...senior moments and all that!!!!
Whilst I am researchinf my own family I am also undertaking my own 'one name study' on the name Saich, and John or Joseph is causing me some headaches in that, so maybe you could be right are they one and the same?
You are correct about the second part of your post, and I have all the family details regarding Emma and her siblings. As is the case, so many times, my family have all passed on, not that they wanted to talk much about grandfather anyway, so I am down to records only.
I see you are online at present but am unable to make contact, tried a few things, but it's not happening.
The story of Joseph/John is a little more complicated, in a nutshell, if I can...Jos Saich appears on a ships list in 1901 as a British Home Boy travelling to Canada, but the arrival lists do not show him as arriving!?!...He appears on the 1901 Census as resident of a Banardo's home the same one as the party were sent! but the in the 1911 census he (presumably) appears at the same home as an inmate/waiter, which I think you have found out. Unfortunately the records for the early 1900's for that home have been destroyed. Any ideas?
If you would like to contact me direct, if that is ethical?, you may, my email is removed by AA staff if not I shall try to look out for a posted reply!
