A brick wall that I've been struggling with for many years.
George STEWART born c1847/1848 my ggrandfather, son of Thomas STEWART and Ann(e) POLTER (POULTER) born Surrey. Immigrated to South Africa before 1872. Married to Lucy STEWART(her maiden name) in South Africa in Feb 1872.

I have no idea when he came to SA or on which ship. Also no further dates available- a long shot- maybe just maybe someone can help.

Any help on George or his parents would be a greatly appreciated.

On Free BDM I have found:-
A George STEWART born at Hartley Wintney in the March quarter 1848

Could you please see if you can find out anything with this one.

Hello Carol

I have reviewed your earlier posts on the STEWART family and am wondering if we are going round in circles.

You have a STEWART family who appear to come from Hartley Wintney Hampshire, is this the family George is connected to?

You are aslo appealing for Ann POULTER b circa 1821, and have received little ot no positive response. This may be due to her name not appearing in the on the various sites used. Presumably she hails from Surrey, have a look at maps.google.co.uk check the distance by using the Directions tool.

The information I gave you at #2 is the only George STEWART with parents Thoa & Ann in the 1851 census, I notice this has also been given earlier. What I can not find is a marriage to fit the description of PO(U)LTON or other spellings.

How did you find the Hartley Wintney link?

A quick expanation - George, son of Thomas and Ann(e) from Surrey came to SA and married Lucy STEWART d.o David STEWART from Hartley, Witney, Hampshire and Harriet HIBBERT (HEPPERT). Thus 2 STEWART Families that married in SA in 1872

David and Harriet STEWARTt married in 1848 in Crookham Cum Ewshott, Hampshire, England. They had children William Henry b 1849 not sure where, Lucy b 1851 in SA and George David b 1854 in SA.
