I have discovered that at the time of 1911 census my Grandmother, age 13, was an inmate at the London Orphan Asylum (Metropolitan District Imbecile Asylum) Watford. Her mother was still alive as were her older siblings, so why would that be? I would be glad of some help on this. Many thanks. Julia

Had she lost her father ? This was one reason why children ended up at the London Orphan Asylum. You may find this site useful. click on archives at the foot of the page for more details.
