Thread: Elizabeth Ellen Sharrocks

Elizabeth or Betsy as she is called on 1911 census was said to be born 1877 Rochdale and living with her husband William Whitely born 1869 Runcorn

It said they have been married 10 years and have a son Frank 1903 Rochdale Joseph 1909 Mancester and Arthur Whiteley 1911 Mancester
I got Franks birth cert which gives his mums name as Elizabeth ellen Sharrocks William Whiteley father is a Canal Boatman
I cant find a marriage except for one in 1916 for Betsy E Sharrocks

Is this a possiblity I cant find her in 1901 but I can see William aged 39 living with his mother and father Charles and Catherine Helpppppppppppp

Not unusual, robrhiwbina. I've found numerous similar instances over the years dating from this period and far earlier.
One set of my gt grandparents always professed to be man and wife on official documents, and they had nine children between 1885 and 1903, but no record at all can be found of them ever marrying.
William Whiteley's occupation as canal boatman suggests he may have been a bit of a difficult character to pin down, and get a commitment from!

Perhaps I need now to get that marriage cert as I cant for the life of me find a relevant Sharrocks Thoght it would be easy to find her with a name like that! Thanks for your help
