    Default Etiquette and Sensitivity

Hello all - a questions re the 'ethics' of family history research really........
I have 'found' a lost great uncle who left his wife and 2 children in Ireland and was rumoured to have gone to US. I've dug around through the years but some new info popped up a couple of days ago that shows he went (eventually) to California, married and may have a family and descendants. Various newspapers link to him through A******* and I have contacted a club he is shown as secretary of (in the 40's) and they have said they will ask past members if anyone has any further information. Today I have also located his Naturalization doc. dated 1918 - earlier than I had expected.
My question is: given that his subsequent marriage in US would have been bigamous and any children illegitimate, should I pursue this/ how?
I would suggest that if any family do come forward I should say that I have info they may or may not wish to know. I have also been told that it is possible his Irish descendants could have a claim to his estate (he died in 1949).
Any advice ? - seems to have similarities to Bruce Forsyth's episode on WDYTA.......

    Hi Spottydog,
Personally as he is not a direct ancestor I would leave it alone, just record it on my tree and leave it at that, but this is only my opinion.

Yes I agree - let sleeping dogs lie. You may be opening a huge can of worms otherwise!!. I have an ancestor who managed to give birth to three children all well after her husband died - they did have her Husband's surname, but who am I to upset the apple cart. A difficult decision.

Thanks for your thoughts. His grandson (in UK) is delighted with the news that we have 'found' his grandfather but I have not been able to find any children/births in US. Now found he has another marriage in US - but may have been widowed by then. No centralised bmds like we have here in UK so unless we had a researcher in US/California seems unlikely that we will find out any more. As you say, unless directly approached, best to just record and leave it at that.
