Thread: Nelson : Brickwall for nearly 30 years

Can someone please HELP?

William Nelson born approx 1825, marriage certificate in 1853 in Australia is extremely difficult to read, it states he was born in Lincoln, aged 28 and parents as : William Nelson & Charlotte formerly Kenale? (Difficult to read surname due to the scrawl of the minister) Charlottes’ surname was probably written phonetically.

Although Williams' birthplace is recorded as Lincoln, he may have arrived from Lincoln, Lincolnshire. Have not been able to locate an accurate arrival date as presumed to be an adult at the time of arrival in Australia. (His age at birth calculated from age at marriage & death)

Death Register states : William aged as 58 in 1884 Parents as William Nelson & Charlotte Kenale,
(William died in Jan 1884 hence probably born sometime in 1825 after January)

I have not been able to locate this family on the census in Britain, if there was an 1831 census, I could possibly locate him because he was only 6 years old, in the 1841 census he was probably working and possibly not with the family.

That is all info I have for his origins. I started looking William Nelson & Charlotte in the 1980s' and have not been able to locate them.

P.S. I do wonder if William was actually his fathers’ first name or if it was a middle name that he was known by
