    Default Harvey family

    My Great-Great Grandfather was William J. Harvey. He was born November 1823 according to the
    1930 census. He lived in Bilston, England when he was young, but I don't know if he was born there.
    He married Matilda Harrington in Lancashire County, England about 1855-56. Matilda was born
    April 1835 in West Bromich, Staffordshire, England. She is the daughter of Joseph Harrington and
    Sarah Turner. William and Matilda had 4 children in Lancashire, England, Elizabeth, John, Susan and
    Henry Bert Harvey. The family emigrated to the US about 1866 and settled in Stockbridge, Calumet
    County, Wisconsin. I have been unable to find any information about William Harvey or his family
    prior to him getting married. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

    Do you have the year of birth for the 4 children

    Matilda HERRINGTON in 1851 is a lodger, in the same household is a child Sarah Ann HERRINGTON 8 moths born Wolverhampton is this her child and if so have you followed her through the years?

    You appear to have confirmed what I suspected, William HARVEY was married before Matilda HERRINGTON in 1860. This is a case of ourchase the marriage certificate or obtain a copy of the parish register entry from the Record office, a cheaper option Dudley

    Should be able to find them on the 1861 census!

    At least 2 of the children are born pre marriage Eliza & John.

    There is also a child with Matilda HERRINGTON on the 1851 census Sarah Ann b q1 1850 Wolverhampton 17 411

    Probably need a bit of imput from Sandra.....presumably she is in the US!

    These children were born before William and Matilda married in 1860 and left for the USA in 1864:
    Eliza Harvey 16
    John Harvey 13
    Susan Harvey 10

    Therefore they are Williams from a previous marriage or they are the children of Matilda and ? all were born in the UK. This links in with Elsabels #6 posting. I think you will have to get th marriage cert to find out if one or both had previous marraiges.
