    Exclamation Daniel Thomas White

My big help request refers to my 4x great grandfather, Daniel Thomas White. I've got a rich family history of his life and descendants, but I can't get back any further with any confidence.

Census returns consistently have Daniel born c1801 in Marylebone, Middlesex or London. He married Caroline Elizabeth Docwra in Hatfield in 1830 and had eight children. His census records record him as a chemist, landowner and gentlemen, so quite wealthy.

My brickwall concerns his parents. My searches using the familysearch.org website has found a birth for a Daniel White in 1801, with the parents Daniel and Eliza White. The birth is recorded at the Lyning in Hospital in Holborn, which was for the distressed poor, which doesn't really fit with Daniel's future life, and there is no middle name recorded.

Another clue to Daniel's parentage is the link to the Farr family. His second son, George, is given Farr as a middle name, which passes through to the next two generations. Also, in 1851 two of Daniel and Caroline's children are staying with a George Farr in Hatfield and are recorded as his great nieces, and in 1871 George Farr is staying with Daniel and Caroline. George Farr is from Ardley or Yardley in Hertfordshire. I haven't found a link to the Farr family on Daniel's wife's side, so I've searched for a Farr / White link.

This appears more successful, I have found a marriage between a Thomas White and a Mary Ann Farr in 1785 in Apsley Guise, Bedfordshire. Thanks to some previous help from Ancestry Aid, I know that Thomas is recorded as living in Chalgrave at the time of his marriage. This marriage is 15 years prior to Daniel's birth, but not unfeasible. I've found a Mary Farr (not a Mary Ann Farr) born in Weston, Hertfordshire, who is the sister to George Farr, born Yardley, Hertordshire.

I haven't found any records of any children from Thomas and Mary Ann's marriage, in fact no further records of any kind, that might link them to an area after their marriage.

Can anyone help me confirm Daniel's parentage, identify any siblings for him, and get me back any further on my White family?

    Hello
Another clue to Daniel's parentage is the link to the Farr family
Not sure what the connection is, if any!

    Marriage St Boltoph without Aldgate
10/11/1808 by LICENCE you will need to look at to glean more information
William DOCWRA b if St Ives Huntingdonshire?* Bachelor
Betsey FARR sp of this parish #

#Betsey FARR bp 17/04/1786 d/o Robert & Margaret FARR Ardeley Herts
    other siblings
George FARR bp 23/07/1790 s/o Robert & Margaret FARR Ardeley Herts
Margaret FARR bp 18/02/1798 d/o Robert & Margaret FARR Kimpton Herts
baptisms from the older version of familysearch

    * Looking on the Cambridge /huntingdon/Herts border

The birth is recorded at the Lyning in Hospital in Holborn,
There appear to be two Daniel WHITE's b 1801 in the same area, one as described above the other a bricklayer

Aaaaaha! Thank you Elsabels - this looks promising.

This appears to be a more likely link - Betsey and William married just three years before Caroline's birth. I've never been able to confirm Caroline's parents - I'd relied on someone else's research, which I'd thought was strong.

Ok, so it appears that I've got to explore both greatx4 grandparent's lines.

Where did you find the other birth for Daniel? Does it give the parent's names?

The FARR family does need exploring, but your link is George, there was another FARR family in Kimpton

DT WHITE was a conclusion I came to when looking at the the census, and may be the answer to the your query qith the Lying in hospital, myber you need to follow both so you can eliminate one.

Middlesex borders with Hertfordshire so consider moving out of the of the area you are looking in.....
