My g5 grandfather was Mathias WOODYEAR (b 1717) who married Sarah JEWER at Salisbury St Martins in 1738. The Woodyears came from the Salisbury area & Mathias & Sarah settled in nearby Plaitford, Hants/Wilts. Mathias died in 1790 & Sarah in 1806. The helpful cleric gave maiden names for burials, but did not know Sarah's, which makes me think that she wasn't a local lass.
My question?
Has anyone come across a JEWER family around 1750? I would love to be able to trace Sarah Jewer's ancestry, at least a generation or so.
I have been able to track the Woodyear line back to Thomas Woodyer, who married Mercy xxx & then Frances xxx & died at Chitterne St Mary, Wilts, in 1683.
Thomas & Mercy had issue: Samuell, William, Mathias, William. Thomas & Frances had Benjamin & (posthumously) Edward.
Frances was "removed from East Knoyle to Chitterne St Mary. Frances a widow. Children Benjamin" (Edward, as stated, was born a few months later)
Once again, I can find nothing more about the Woodyear's or about either marriage. The five Woodyear boys - Samuell, Mathias, William, Benjamin & Edward were all alive to be mentioned in their uncle's will of 1731
If anyone has an info about this family, I would love to hear from them.
