    Exclamation Michael Rooney

Thank you for your kind offer of help, this is my brick wall which i cannot get any further with, here goes............

My gt grandfather was Michael Rooney, he was born in 1839 in preston lancashire parents were Thomas Rooney and ellen?
Michaels birth was never registered, this we are now sure of with help from the registras office and records office, i got his parents names from his baptism record, which stated his father was thomas rooney and his mother was ellen, (no surname given)
Michael is on the 1841 census living in back bridge street preston, with a family called magee, no sign of his mother, his father thomas i have a death cert for he died in 1840 from typhus fever, after 1841 i cannot find micheal on any census until 1871 when he was married to my gt grandmother.
It is thomas i am trying to find info on, any help or ideas on how to go about this and where to look would be great, there was only one michael rooney in preston in 1841 matching the birth date of my gt grandfather michael so i am sure the census is correct, sorry to take so long explaining, i hope you can understand.
    Thank you
    Bernadette

Did Michael's mother marry again? Was it Mary Magee on the 1841 census page? It could be a relative if not his mother perhaps.

Do you have the age and place where Thomas died or do you have his birth date and place.

    Hi Bernadette,

OK – thinking a little out of the box – In the 1841 Census that you mention there is a 20 year old Ellen McGee born in Ireland living with relatives and boarders in “Back Canal Street” – could this be Michael’s mother and the reason that you cannot find him in census’ before his marriage is because he took his stepfather’s name for awhile?

Just a thought but could this be your Michael Rooney?
