Thread: Family of Charlotte Elizabeth Roberts born 1885 Portsea (just lost chunk of tree!!)

Just found the record of them going to Canada in 1896 (both Annie and Charlotte). It seems that they were Barnardos children, poor things.
Would be very interesting to see them in 1891 though, I wonder if the parents died?

At least it gives me someone else to investigate!! Been doing quite well with free searches. Think that this is her in 1891:

Estimated birth year: abt 1886
Relation: Foster Child (Child)
Mother's name: Sarah A Haines

and her family is probably this one:

Owen Roberts 35
Sussanna Roberts 31
Annie C Roberts 4
William D Roberts 1

Now why would the older sister be in Foster care?

had you realised that with charlotte e roberts in 1891 census is eliza a roberts aged 7 - also a foster child. do you know that they came from warminster etc.

Ahh! The problem is trying to work things out without a subscrition!! It might be time to take a deep breath and think about what I actually know about Charlotte!

We found Ivor Brooker in his elder years in the USA living with his wife, a Lottie Brooker. We knbow that Ivor was born in 1892 in Reading. (May 10th)
We looked at the migration records and found records for Ivor and Lottie entering the USA from Canada.
Today my cousin found a marriage for Charlotte E Roberts and Ivor Cuthbert Brookes (almost definitely Ivor Cuthbert Brooker) in Duffin Toronto. (We don't know a date yet as we haven't got a subscrition!!)
In 1921 Lottie Brooker gets her sister into the USA and her son Vernon. Her sister is Annie (Green) and she is 36 in 1921 so was born 1885 in England.
Lottie is 30 years and 11 months in 1922 and has "Portsmouth" as her place of birth, so she was born in 1892..........oops, think I may have spotted our mistake! Wait a minute we have her death record and she has her birth date as 20th February 1885 !!

Off to double and triple check, thanks again!!

Is vernon the son of anie green. Do you have annie roberts marriage to mr green

UM HER BIRTH DATE SEEMS A BIT MOVEABLE. LOOKING AT THE 1930 US CENSUS INDEX ON LINE ( i dont have access to it) gives ivor living in los angles, california. there is also a charlotte brooker living same place . her birth is put as approx 1888.

Thanks for both of those. I don't have a marriage and yes Vernon is her son. I think that he was born in 1919, it is not that clear on the immigration record, but he appears to be 2 years and 6 months in 1921.
