    Default John and Hannah Scott

    Hi folks,

I've been at this most of the evening and I need a fresh pair of eyes to search for me. Think I'm just tired now!

1901 census - John Scott head b.1863 Railway Guard - born in Huby, Yorkshire with wife
    Hannah W. ? b.1868 Crawick,Sanquhar Scotland - (according to 1911 Census) Children -

    Mary Ellen - b.1898 - Ferryhill, Durham
    John George - b. 26 Oct 1898 (I have a 'short' version of his b/cert) - Ferryhill, Durham.

I can't seem to find a marriage for John and Hannah. Nor can I find any of them prior to the 1901 census.

John Scott .b.1863 was dead by the 1911 census.

I just want to get back a few more generations if poss, find the censuses for both John and Hannah and their parents if I can.

    Any help would be appreciated

    1901 ref no - rg13 pce 4632 fol 161 p.5

Thanks Welshlady for getting me back on track! Your info has helped enormously. I've now found Anthony Scott and wife on several censuses but still struggling to find John on any other censuses apart from the 1871??

I've not made a start on Hannah Scott as yet but when I find time I will try and track her down, no doubt with the help of Scotlandspeople! I seem to have quite a few Scottish roots.

    Thanks again for your help.

think i have found anthony and family on all census up to 1901 but as you say john is elusive unless above.

the eliza j scott above appears to die in 1892 which could fit in with a remarriage to hannah later .

Thanks again for your help Welshlady.

I have found Anthony up to 1881 census but to be honest I didn't go any further as I was too busy searching for John but still no luck! Do you have the ref no's please for the 1891 and 1901 census?

I have been looking for a marriage for John and Eliza J - didn't have much with that either I do have a good feeling that it is MY John that you found in the 1891 census with Eliza J - it all fits in - his occupation, Ferryhill etc. This is driving me mad!! Will keep searching though and thanks once again.

The only censuses I have for John is the 1871 census, now got all of them for his father Anthony.

Possible marriage - 1890 Jan qtr - John Scott - Hannah Maria Maughan 10a 297 Auckland area.

On 1911 census it states John and Hannah been married for approx 10yrs and had 3 children (1 deceased). What do you think? But if John married in 1890 to Hannah he can't have had a first wife Eliza J who died 1892??? Could he, oh confused again now??!!

um... not sure . it is a long time to be married before they had their first child and then two in quick succession. what about the child that died- what do you know about that. mind you it says married 10 years.

i suppose easiest way would be to get one of the childrens full birth certs and then you would know maiden name.
