Thread: Henry and Elizabeth Fenn

Henry Fenn was born in Essex, Maldon in 1838. According to the 1871 census, he is married to Elizabeth, who was born in Devonport, Devon about 1845. They have a daughter Anne or Anna, born 1867, and Henry, 1869.

May I ask for help in confirming Henry's wife, Elizabeth? Was her last name Mann or Maunder?

I found marriages to Henry Fenn in December 1864 (Maunder) or 1865 (Mann).

I can't find an Elizabeth Mann born in Devon in 1845. There are two Elizabeth Maunders born in Devon in 1845, but neither in Devonport.

Also, I cannot find either Henry or Elizabeth in the 1891 census, nor can I confirm their death dates. I know Elizabeth died before 1901, as Henry is listed as a widower in the 1901 census.

i cant see them in 1891
the easiest way would be to buy one of the chidlrens birth cert - that way you would be sure of the maiden name and could take it from there.

i think the marriage to elizabeth mann looks the most likely. devonport is a district of plymouth . there is this elizabeth mann in 1861

I did find the death of Elizabeth Ann Fenn in 1899, but couldn't relate it back to a birth in 1845 in Devon.

The marriage on 10/10/1864 has thrown me because I thought Henry's father was James.

I had already established the marriages of Henry (born 1869) and Edith to Peter Taylor. I'm not sure about Ann's marriage because Henry is described as a platelayer, not a bricklayer in the 1881 census.

Definitely need to research Henry some more.
