    Default Amos Moore/Sarah Ann

My great grandparents (Amos Moore/Sarah Ann) appear in the 1881 and 1901 Census' in the Lambeth area, I can find references to them in the baptism records of their 5 five children (only my grandfather appears to have survived to adulthood) and I can trace Amos' family back for at least one generation. But I can find no record of their marriage so I cannot trace Sarah Ann's family.
There are two other Amos Moores in the area at the time, one married to Mary Ann Tucker and the other in Bethnal Green. These ARE NOT my relative.
Can anybody help with a marriage record or give me an idea where I might search if they were not actually married?

Many thanks and a Happy New Year

Hi Gumble- I have had a look at the marriage transcripts for London and Amos Moore
I found out he was married to Sarah Ketteman in Hackney in the July - sept 1866 1B 678- which means you will be able to a certificate for them

    Hello

You do not give much information as regards dates /places of your Amos MOORE family, I presume this is the one at the Workhouse 53 Mint St Southwark in 1881!

Amos MOORE may have been b 1853 Newington 1d 177

The first child Frances Elizabeth appears to have been born 02/04/1876 bp with brother George 20/03/1881, the address is Mint St & Amos is desc as a Butcher
By finding and obtaining this childs birth certificate, you will find whether the parents were married or the mothers maiden name....! The baptism date suggests she would be registered in the 2nd quarter April - June 1876
Only one Frances Elizabeth comes up in the timeframe, HOPKINS London City 1c 41 ( possibly William HOPKINS dau, found a baptism)

Was this the reason for the delay in having her baptised!

looking at the ages on the census if this is their child then they were young when she was born!

Amos Moores in the area at the time, one married to Mary Ann Tucker
This one appears to have been born in Basingstoke circa 1851

Thanks everyone for your replies. Sorry I didn't give the full details of the family. Yes the Amos and Sarah at Mint St in 1881 and Victoria St in 1891 are the right ones. Unfortunately that means that the marriage in 1866 is very unlikely to be the right one- Amos would have been 13 and Sarah about 7!
George was my grandfather and he was baptised on the same day as his sister Frances Elizabeth who was born in about 1876. She does not appear in the 1881 census and another daughter, Frances Mary was baptised in 1883. A son Alfred was baptised in 1886 but only George and William appear in the 1891 census. I can find no evidence of Sarah and William in the 1901 census but a probable Amos appears alone in an institution. I have scoured FreeBMD for registrations of birth/death of all five children (except of course the death of George) and can find none of them! Amos is NOT described as deceased on my grandparents' marriage certificate in 1918 and I think I have found his death in 1930.
George deserted my grandmother so my mother knows very little about him. My uncle refused to even mention his name!

    Thanks again

I've just had a quick look at FreeBMd for Sarah Hopkins born in/near Newington around 1859 and I'm afraid there's nothing likely.

Another thing I should have mentioned- Amos' mother was named Frances so obviously Frances Elizabeth and Frances Mary were named after her. Amos' sister was also named Frances (married a Hawkins- I can't remember his christian name off the top of my head) and his grandfather was Francis
