    Exclamation Hugh Hegarty

Hi I am looking for parents or siblings of Hugh Hegarty born 1858 not sure where in Ireland He married Sarah Devine at St. Columb's Church Glenwilly, Letterkenny about 1878 He died in Lismonaghan Ireland in 1889. Sarah was on the 1901 census as a widow Lismonaghan, Leck House #13, she then moved her family to Scotland. I have never been hitting a brickwall with Hugh for many years any information would be appreciated.

    Hi ang!

I am sorry I can't offer you any assistance -I have no knowledge of Irish ancestry! Wish I did as I suspect my 1800s Cullens came from Ireland!

I wonder if it would be a good idea for you to post your thread on the Irish Forum and maybe others will be able to advise/help?

    Ang,

The statutory registration of births, deaths & RC marriages in Ireland started in 1864, so there ought to be a record of this marriage in 1878. I looked on the LDS Pilot site but I cannot see any marriage in Donegal at that time that fits the information you have.

Your best bet is probably to check the parish records, starting with the marriage. (And if you find the marriage, you’ll get the couple’s fathers names). The records may be available at the church, but alternatively PRONI in Belfast have a copy under ref MIC 1D/85. The PRONI records are not available on line and someone needs to look them up for you. (Note that until April 2011 PRONI is closed but these records are available at Cregagh Library in Belfast instead).

Have you tried Irish Family History Foundation: Home
    http://iwww.rishfamilyresearch.co.uk/
Griffiths Valuation of Ireland - Index Extracts.
or there is also the new pilot search site for Ireland [LDS] but I think this has been suggested .
