Thread: Wilson Grayson 1828-1893

Wilson was my 3xGrt Grandad and I have been searching for him for years now on the 1861 Census, I may have asked for help before on this one, but many years ago.

Wilson GRAYSON was born c1828 in Kendal, Cumbria (Westmoreland). On the 1841 Census he was at home with his parents in Kendal.

He married Hannah POOLE (b1831 Staffs died ?) Dec QTr 1849
1851 Census he is in Stoke on Trent with the heavily pregnant Hannah, her widowed father James POOLE b.c1804 Staffs, and her 4 younger siblings.

My grt grt Gran Sarah GRAYSON was born 2 Jun 1851 at Shelton.

1861 census - nothing for anyone

By 1871 Wilson was living in Cheetham Lancs with his 2nd wife Elizabeth LOGAN, whom he married in 1868. in 1881 & 1891 he was in Manchester & Salford, listed as Thomas GRAYSON on the 1891.

I cant find a death for Hannah POOLE. I have tried different combinations searching for ANY of the POOLE family on 1861 and for Wilson & Sarah GRAYSON, but can find nothing. There is a W GRAYSON in a prison down Exeter way but birth year doesn't match......BUT hw would I confirm that was him? What happened to Hannah and who would be looking after Sarah who was almost 10 years old then?

Hi Lozzie I was drawing up blanks too using just the census info so I took out the place of birth and came up with this....
1861 RG9/3964/F Poole Miller Bridge, Rydal & Loughrigg, Westmorland Maids servant b in Wiltshire Caroline age 16 Fanny age 20
My search was for Fanny and lo and behold her sister was with her although they have changed their places of birth?
