    Default Aldersons of Arkengarthdale, Yorks.

I've come up against a brick wall and would like to know if anyone has anything at all on a James Alderson born 1806 Arkengarthdale, his father is also James Alderson, both miners. Ih ave nothing at all for his parents and hope someone may have it here or point me in the right direction for parish records.
James married a Mary Emmerson from Reeth in 1825 and they moved to Durham to live.

    Hi Enid.

How sure are you about James's year of birth?

There is a baptism for a James Alderson, 10th February 1805 at Kirkby Stephen about 8 to 10 miles from Arkengarthdale. Parents James Alderson and Jane Richardson.

    Batch No C067071 refers.

    Hi Enid!

Can you let us have anything else you know ie names & dates of any children they had, where they lived and when?

Have you tracked them through the census? If so, please let us have the refs (if you have them that is!) I have found a James Alderson born 1806 on the 1851 census but this states he was married to Elizabeth. Their kids are James, Jonathon, Thomas and Alice. I won't give details as they are likely not your family!

Please let us have all the info you know and we will do our best to help you!

If you look on the IGI there is a James Alderston - Father same name ch on 22/7/1804 at Thornhill by Dewsbury. Not sure if this is the right one though. Yes how sure are you about the birth date? You could also look on the Hugh Wallis site - though that is taken from the IGI

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I'm not sure about birth but I have them on the 1841 census, living in South Church Village, Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham.

    James 35
    Mary 35
    Mary 14
    Hannah 11
    Rachael 8
    James 5
    Elizabeth 10mths.

James died 1848 so there aren't any more census with him on. It's his parents I'm snookered with. He married Mary Emerson around 1825, but have no citations for them, then he remarried in 1847 to Frances Jane Richardson .
I don't know his parents names. I hope this helps you all and look forward to your replies. The Hugh Wallis site is marvellous, thank you for that, I'll keep you posted if I find anything on there.

Thanks for that info, I couldn't find anything for his marriage to Mary Emerson. His second marriage was Frances Jane Walton, sorry, I put Richardson, married in the Parish of St. Andrews Auckland.. 27th June 1847, I have a copy of their certificate.

To all who helped, thank you very much. I've found Familysearch and another couple of sites thanks to your assistance and am now satisfied with what I have found. Marvellous site this. All the best to you all for 2011.
