Thomas Norman

My brickwall is Thomas Norman, born in Romsey Hants in 1786/87 (from discharge papers). He served in the army and was discharged in 1816, having married a Caroline Ross (father William, mother ?) in 1813 at Guernsey. A son Solomon was b. Gosport in 1815 and there was a Thomas N baptised as an adult in 1830 in Romsey (no parents were listed). I have not found him (or Caroline) in Hampshire censuses 1841 onwards.
Any assistance in demolishing the wall would be appreciated.

If your ancestors died before the introduction of the BMD certification on 1 July 1837, then you are dependent on Parish records, so you will need to have an idea of the village they were lliving in , and then it is a case of page turning ( well usisng a reader) , looking for the appropriate entry
You maybe lucky and find an entry on beta.familysearch.org.uk you can either order the film via them ( see library section ) or use the local Records Office Check out this site for the relevant office genuki.co.uk
If you find the marriage entry for his son Solomon, this will indicate whether licing or deceased at that time

looking at the thomas n adult baptism it gives a birth date of 1788

i think this stands a good chance of being your thomas. i wonder if it was a baptism shortly before death.
the main couple in romsey having children then appear to be thomas and elizabeth - they have a son solomon baptised 1778. mind you they have lots of children baptised so wonder why thomas missed out if he is theirs?

Yes, I did know about the 1830 baptism. Unfortunately, 'Adult' is listed where parent(s) might have been and, yes, I wondered about the possibilty of a christening before dying. I understand that in the late 1700s there was a tax on baptisms and some parents omitted them.
There are quite a few Normans across Hampshire generally!
