James Samuel LEE

My great grandfather was James Samuel LEE, born 5 July 1844 or 46 in, according to the 1881 census, Worcester, Worcestershire. He died 24 September 1892, Southampton, aged 46. The only census I have found him in is the 1881. According to his marriage certificate to Harriett ISAAC, his father was James LEE, a sawyer, and was deceased. I have the family bible, with J.LEE written on the side, and his birth is written down beside his name and that is all. Harriett had a son born out of wedlock and went on to have six other children with Jame Samuel.

I would like to find James Samuel's birth registration. I have looked under all variations of LEE, and used both James Samuel and Samuel James in my search.

I am in Brisbane, Australia, so a personal search of Worcester's records are not an option for me. The family story as told by my maternal grandmother is that her family were Jewish. In the course of my research, I cannot find anything to back up that statement.

James Samuel and Harriett were married in Southampton and all children were born in Southampton.

i see they married in 1879. i assume he was a batchelor on his wedding cert.

Sorry, yes, I did find James Samuel in the 1891 Census. His marriage certificate claims him to be a bachelor and Harriett a spinster. I have proved that the eldest boy, in the 1881 census, John Thomas was Harriet's son born out of wedlock.

The family bible has James birthday date at 5 July 184 - either 1844 or 1846 it is not clear.

Joseph is head married to Elizabeth with children Thomas 15 , Joseph 13, John 11, Elizabeth 10 and Martha 2 but there is a big gap between Martha and Elizabeth. There are 3 children with the surname Johnson too. Joseph is a miner but have found these

No mention of William being blind. It's worth a look on the IGI as possible matches keep coming up with Joseph as father.

Wow! I am blown away - thank you so much - off to check the birth rego for James LEA and order the certificate. On James Samuel (spelt in the bible as Samule) marriage certificate, it states his father (deceased) is a sawyer. The marriage took place in 1879 so we know James senior was dead by then. I will also go check out those census you've given me... Again Thank You so much.
