    Default P & O S S RANCHI - Passenger list

I am looking for my grand father William Browne who was in Calcutta, India during 1943-46. He left for England in August of 1946 on the S S Ranchi after that have never heard of him again. My father never bothered to find him while he was alive but I am curious to know where is he and any other information I can collect. He must have been born during 1918-1924 not too sure. Have a few pics of him trying to guess his age from that...

    Hello

Let's see if we can find out a bit more about William Browne....... we need to look pre 1946...... and find when and where he was born ...did he have any other names.....there are at least 150 listed in the period 1905 - 1930

Do you have his marriage certificate or know who/where he married and approx year ( this will be to your Nana?)

Did he have any siblings, again if you can give as much info as you know.......

If you want to send any info related to living persons , PM me

He was married to my nana IRIS BROWNE in 1945 and he left India in August of 1946 my dad was born in Sept of 1946 but he never came back though he would keep in touch with my nana via mail. I have photos of my grand dad which i can scan & send to u besides this I have no other information. What I presume is he must have married again in England after he went back and forgot about the family he left back in India... My dad is no more but I want to know more about his father and my ancestor.

    Hello

Do you know what Nana Iris BROWNE's maiden / birth name was....... and her approx birth year was she born in India?

I presume your father was born in India in 1946.....what is his name and which state / region?

Sorry to keep coming back with questions and no answers! I have in mind a set of records to look at for your nana and father, these hopfully will lead to the elusive Willam BROWNE

The SS RANCHI was used as a troop ship until July 1947, so Wm BROWNE would be returining to the UK!
