    Exclamation Martha Davison

    Hi Help required
I am trying to find information on the Parents and date of birth of my grandmother Martha Davison born about 1892 in Southwick Sunderland. She married Thomas. E. Robinson in 1913 and had two children, son Thomas Robinson born 1914 in Sunderland and daughter Ida Robinson born 1916 in Houghton- le-Springs County Durham. Husband /father Thomas was killed in action 1916. In 1919 Martha married John William Francis born 1883 in Monkswearmouth, Sunderland and Martha gave birth to three daughters Joan born 1923, Mary born 1925, and Joyce born 1927.
I cannot find any information regarding Martha Davison or her parents therefore I would be most grateful for any information

    Hi Geoff!

A quick look on the 1901 cencus for Sunderland shows a number of Martha Davison's, I'm afraid!

I take you haven't got her either of her marriage certs? This is the way forward to getting hold of at least her Father's name.

    Hi again!

One that stands out in 1901 is Martha Davison listed as a visitor with her Mother and 3 siblings in the Wharton household.

    Hello geoff angford

As can be seen from the 2 replies above, different members have potentially identyfied 'your' grandmother on the same year census in 2 different households, you really need to establish a couple of things to enable you to move back successfully

    1) Martha's fathers name and occupation, these will be shown on the marriage certificate, also the witnesses maybe her family members

    2) when and where Martha was born, this usually comes form the birth certificate, but a guide could be on the marriage certificate

    There is a MARTHA ANN DAVISON b 1/4 ro Sept 1892 Sunderland 10a 655

    certificates cost £9.25 from gro.gov.uk

let us know if you have further information

    Hi banditfivealive!

Yes, this is the one I gave the reference for but a different one than welshlady gave. As Elsabels says in #5, these are the same year and area and we have no way of knowing if either of these are the correct family that Geof Angford is looking for without further info.

Hi -yesI agree -I couIdnt get Eleanor and Robert together with Martha - doesnt help that they were born all over the place-I suspect that Martha age 47 in 1901 is the mother - she is the right age - I suspect also that the Whartons may have been older Marthas family ie her nee name - often the case paying a vist - but all of that is pure suposition at this stage - i will keep looking.

    Hi banditalive

As you point out, it is all supposition at this stage, which is why we can't really move forward without some positives. As Elsabels said, we can't know any positives unless a marriage/birth certs obtained. Otherwise we may well be latching onto the completely wrong family - and we are all well aware of how easy that is to do!!
