Red face Searching for George Tucker born 1861

    Hi,
I am called Joe and currently trying to find birth/baptism for my wife's ancestor George TUCKER. According to census returne he was born in 1861 in Weston-super-Mare. Somerset.
His father was also George TUCKER and when George junior married Ellen WICKHAM in 1890 in Wells, Somerset, both Georges were Seamen.

Would be most grateful if anyone could break this brickwall for me.

Thanks Elsabels - That's the right George and Gwendoline is my wife's Grandmother.
Its his birth details I am stuck on and I also can't find him on census returns prior to 1891.
In 1881 there is a George Tucker on board HMS Crocodile but his d.o.b. is 4 June 1857 born in Whiscombe, Somerset.

Hi Elsabels, sorry for delay in replying due to family crisis.
That's my problem - I have sent for 4 b certs so far and only one has a father called George but he was born in 1857 and the father was an Ag Lab but I know his father joined the Navy in 1854.

    Hello Joe

No problems about the time delay, that's one reason why it takes us a lifetime to sort our past out, other things get in the way!

You may not be looking for a George TUCKER with a father George.....just because it is stated on his marriage certificate doesnot mean it is correct!

People added a fictious father for respectability his stepfather may have been George with another surname, it could have been his grandparent who raised him etc.

You need to find the correct birth entry / baptism entry for the George TUCKER who married Ellen WICKHAM

Can you type the full details of the marriage entry together wit the witnesses names and any other info you have on George on this thread....have you found him on the 1911 census ( you can post details, we cannot do look ups) , or do you have his death certificate, or know when he died.......

Have you looked at the Seaman's Union /Guild shown on the 1891 census, this must have been in its infancy......

Sorry more questions than answers but we will try and find your George TUCKER

    Hello Joe!

Throwing a bit more into the potential mix:

    1871 census - Weston Super Mare - Carlton Street RG10 2460 30 5

Elizabeth FISHER - 63 - Lodging House Keeper born Somerset
Caroline TUCKER - 41 - LODGER - Char Woman born Axbridge, Somerset
George TUCKER - 14 - Plumbers Labourer - born Axbridge, Somerset
Isabella TUCKER - 8 - born Axbridge, Somerset

Axbridge is in the Civil Parish of Weston Super Mare

    1881 census - HM Goal Residence Ho, Cumberland Road, Bedminster, Somerset - RG11 2450 96 37
    Prisoner - George Tucker b 1810, Somerset - Shopman

I haven't followed up Caroline or Isabella as yet to see where they are in 1881.
