    Exclamation William Henry Martin

What a great idea. My brickwall is my great x 3 grandparents. I have been trying to trace them for five years now. My 2 x grt grandparents were William Henry Martin born 1848 & Sarah Ann Starr born 1856. It is Williams parents that I have been unable to trace. William was born in Bethnal Green,London. From his marriage cert I have found that his father's name was Edward & that he was a hawker. I have been unable to trace a B/C for William Henry or his sister Maria Eliza Martin, born in 1841.(Indeed I have spent a fortune on B/Cs that were for the wrong people). I have also been unable to trace the family in 1841 or 1851,neither can I trace William in the 1861 census. (Although I have traced his newly married sister, now Maria Eliza Welford). In 1871 William is living with his married sister & he married Sarah in 1875. Does anyone have any ideas about I can pursue this part of my family tree as I am stumped!

    Regards

    Coreen

Have you tried looking in Scottish OPRs and the 1841 census? There were a lot of Martins living on the Isle of Skye in the 19th Century. There was a potato famine in the 1840s in the Hebrides. Martins may have moved away to find a living elsewhere, especially as Edward Martin is listed as a hawker.

Have you checked the IGI? there is an Edward MartinS who married Elizabeth Brown on 23/4/1839 at St Martin in the fields, Westminster. This could indeed be your man.
