Fingers crossed .. here goes.
GGrandfather, Joseph Harrison b c1813 consistently states Horsley or Horsley Woodhouse - villages only a mile or so apart - as his place of birth.
Marriage to Phebe Burgin 1832 at Alfreton Parish Church, Derbys, I can place him in Horsley until at least 1843, working as a Cotton Framework Knitter, children Ann,Eliza,Sarah,Joseph and Henry all born there. Christopher, John Joseph( the youngerJoseph died in infancy) and Joshua all born in nearby Ilkeston.
Before that no trace of him at all. There are other Harrisons living in Horsley in 1841 as well as possible siblings and a possible parent in Thomas Harrison b c 1782/90 in Ilkeston with place of birth as Horsley. Given that most families of the time had many children it is unlikely that Joseph was an only child but I can find nothing on which to state with certainty.
Any suggestions or help anyone ?
