    Exclamation italian ancestor

helo i hope someone can help me with this.
i am searching for the family eg parents and any brothers or sisters of matthew castellian
he was born in naples italy in 1841/2 and came to liverpool circa 1860,( as he does not appear on the census until 1871) he married here in liverpool at holy cross rc church in standish street liverpool in november 1863 to a mary mcannally, they had several children, ann, ellen, james, matthew, may, christina, and isabella. according to the census he lived in campbell street liverpool.
i would love to find any information on his life in italy before he came to live in liverpool.
on his marriage certificate his surname is written as costello, and lists his fathers given name as pasearle.
but on his death certificate his surname is written as castellian. his two eldest children ann and ellen have the surname costello when their births were registerd, but, on their marriage certificates their surname is written castellian the rest of the children were all registerd at birth as castellian so it looks like the original name (which is spelt many ways over the census years) was castellian and it has been changed to costello when matthew came to liverpool then changed it back to castellian
    thanks
    pat

    Hi there,
I don't know if this helps but I lived in Italy for 10 years and I think the given name might be PASQUALE, which is a southern first name found around the area of Naples and means the person was born around the time of Pasqua which means Easter.

    Hello

There are at least 6 family trees with your ancestors name in on A******* maybe linking up with fellow researchers who have a common goal may help!

    Default Some useful sites

Neither Castellian nor Costello seem to be common names in Italy, let alone the Naples area. What is interesting though is that Costello is a widely known surname in Ireland (County Mayo) I wonder if Mary came from that area.

    - L'Italia dei Cognomi site to search for surnames - cognome

You may also find it useful to join - Anglo-Italian Family History Society Homepage - I noticed there was an intersting book mentioned on the site by Debra D'Annunzio, Liverpool's Italian Families. Unfortunately your surnames do not appear on the members interests lists.

More interesting reading came be found on this site

    Little Italy

The National Archives do not seem to hold any naturalisation papers for Matthew, though I'm sure you will have checked this.

What was Matthew's occupation? If you could narrow down the area of Naples he came from there may be records available through the Church of the Latter Day Saints family history centers.

    Good luck with your search

    Default Extra bit

I wonder if the name might originally have been CASTELLAN and with the strong Naples accent was recorded as CASTELLIAN, the white pages (phone book) has two Castellans listed with addresses, for the Naples area.

It's a long shot I know, but if you would like to contact them and need any help writing a letter give me a shout.
