    Exclamation William Charles Tamblyn

My maternal great grandfather's brother was William Charles Tamblyn. He was the son of Hezekiah Tamblyn & Elizabeth Ann Lampier. He was born 28 June 1866 at Rejerrah, Cornwall (St Columb Jul to Sep 1866 5c/109). He appears in the 1871 census age 5 at Rejerrah Village, Cornwall a scholar. He appears in the 1881 census at Rejerrah, Cornwall employed as an Iron & Blende Miner.

Subsequent to 1881 I have been unable to trace any record of him in Census records, marriage records or death records, whereas I have been able to trace all relevant records for the rest of his family.

There was a William Tamblyn, also from St Columb, who married Ellen Marks in 1895 but I have seen the marriage certificate and its not the same William Tamblyn (different parents). Similarly there was also a William Tamblyn who married Emily Hicks but the 1901 census shows he was originally from St Agnes, Cornwall and not the St Columb / Rejerrah area.

I would be extremely grateful for any information on William post 1881 please.

Thanks very much for your 2 posts.

I am pretty certain regarding the birthplace of William Charles as I have a copy of his birth certificate. It shows William Charles Tamblyn born at Rejerrah, Newlyn East. Son of Hezekiah Tamblyn & Elizabeth Ann Tamblyn (formerly Lampier) so its definitely him. The parents were married at Newlyn East and William's two siblings were also born there.

I had come across the death register entry you mentioned before and initially discounted it after obtaining a copy of the death certificate, but your post has prompted me to look at it again. Although the informant was his mother Elizabeth, the death certificate shows just William Tamblyn (not William Charles) and shows him living at Falmouth rd, Redruth. I was also aware of a William Tamblyn of the same age born in Illogan, nr Redruth, who from census entries had a mother Elizabeth and for this reason I assumed it was he, and not my Rejerrah William, that had died in 1892.

However on looking at it again I see William Charles' mother Elizabeth remarried after Hezekiah died ( to a Joshua White) and they moved down to the St Agnes area sometime after 1885. Its therefore possible William Charles moved down with them (although he's not with them on the 1891 census) and could have been around Redruth in the early 1890s. Think I therefore need to do some more research. If I can find the Illogan William still alive after 1892, there's still a chance the William who died is "my" William.

Thanks very much for your time and input towards helping to solve this mystery - its much appreciated. William Charles is the only member of the Tamblyn clan of that generation I have been unable to trace through from birth to death, so I am quite keen to find him.
