My brick wall is Matthew Tierney living in St Marylebone Middlesex aound 1782-1836 I know he married in 1822 and was then living at 3 Marylebone Court, St Marylebone, Middlesex. It was recorded on his sons marriage certificate as father's occupation Cooper or Vat Maker. I have a record of his burial 29.8.1836 at St Mary Moorfields, Middlesex, London. How can I find records relating to the names of his parents and where he was born?

Yes, that's the info I have, but that was the date of the banns, then I have the marriage date 9 Dec 1822. I cannot find anything about him before 1822! ie birth/baptism record and/or name of parents. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

cant see any birth records. as there are two matthew tierneys marrying in 1822 how sure are you that your matthew married mary burke not the other mary and that the matthew whose burial you have found is yours?
I don't believe Matthew Tierney ever married Mary O'Connor as there are only two records of Banns and no marriage date. I think it is one and the same Matthew as his address is Marylebone Court, on both records. However I have another burial record and the address is listed as near where the son was born so it looks as though there was more than one Matthew Tierney living around the same area at that time.

I've looked at some old maps of London and this address is close to St Lukes, Old Street where the sons were born.
Obviously both burials are close enough so perhaps I should widen my search for birth records to include c1782-c1790
