My grandmother was a Home Child from England. Her name was Mary Ann Ada Long, born October 7, 1883. She was put into an orphanage by her step-mother, separate from her sister Bessie and brother Tom, then sent to Canada as a young girl. She married James Thompson (July 10, 1869 - March 21, 1967) in Manitoba on June 1, 1917. She died young on January 13, 1933, leaving behind two young daughters. Since the girls were so young, Grandma had not shared many of the hardships she had endured but Mom remembered that she cried whenever she talked about her past. Grandma died when her oldest daughter was 13 so any information was lost. Now that my mother, Ellen Elizabeth (Thompson) Morrice has passed away, even the small amount she remembered is lost to us. My brother, sister and I are now the oldest generation in our family and I would love to find out more about this brave woman who is responsible for all of us being here.
Any help would be MOST appreciated! Isabel (Morrice) Keating
