Exclamation Paul Rider [Ryder] /Sarah Bradford

    What a generous idea.
I have a 25 year old stumbling block that maybe someone can help with. I managed to find the marriage after 25 years for Paul Rider [Ryder] /Sarah Bradford after it magically appeared on the free reg site. They were married at Harlow Essex 20 march 1817. I have not been able to find a baptism /birth [or birthplace for Paul. {Sarah was born at Langley Essex]On the marriage entry, he is a publican, but I dont know which pub or where. They had a daughter baptised at Harlow 1817, but by 1818 Paul is listed as a keeper of a public house at St leonards Shoreditch. He is a victim of a crime of robbery 1818[old Baily records]
The rest of his children were born at St John Horsley Down, and Paul is publican at the Grapes . Gainsford st Horsley Down, and then the Rose and Crown,113 Long Lane Bermondsey from 1836 -1841, when he moved to Stockton Durham and died in 1843.
I would love to find his baptism etc. He was born about 1789. I would also like to know which pub he had around the Harlow area in 1817, and if he may have come from there.
    Many thanks

Hi Seeker, It would no doubt have been an Inn/Tavern in Harlow around 1817 . As a main-road parish Harlow was well furnished with inns. Around 1769 there were about 14 Inns in the town. The Green Man, Mulberry Green, may date from the 16th century..The Crown Market Street was an Inn by 1703..In 1722 there was another Inn called the Wheatsheaf but changed its name by 1769.The George Fore Street formerly one of Harlows largest Inns gave up its licenece around 1948 and became a shop in 1978. There is a mention of it also date wise for 1598.The Queens Head which was located in Church Gate Street was first recorded as an Inn in 1736. There was also The Red Lion located in Potter Street ..The White Horse Inn was built in 1755 but rebuilt possibly in or around the early 19th century. In 1755 we have The Kings Head, Potter Street and was later rebuilt toward the end of the 18th century. The Kings Head survived as a Public House until it was demolished in 1957.. Have you thought about contacting the National Archives in regards to this one?

Re Inns/Taverns kept by Paul Ryder.

The Historical Directories site may be worth a look.

Hi Thanks for help everyone. I have come acros that baptism before but have been told by someone who belongs to that line that it is not my Paul. Paul doesnt seem to be a very common name for that era so I am still open to him being mine. Cheers
