    Default Why....?

    Hello!

I am flumoxed why people post questions/requests for help and then ignore the replies given!

There are, clearly, a lot of people on this site that have the ability and desire to help others in their research so I don't understand why, once they have posted a question, they don't re-visit it!

    Hello Rubina,
Its called rudeness..There have been many times I have replied to requests for help and the poster has not replied back..Sometimes posters post on other forums and we might post the same replies so the poster just doesn,t bother to reply...There are a number of us on site such as Elsabels,Hazelnut,BigDon,Finbar,Geniegenie to name a few who go out of their way and spend many an hour trying to sift through old documents and historical information to add to the posters querie without no word of thanks...In saying that though there are other posters who do appreciate our efforts even if they have sighted our findings before....

Many thanks for making this post...

    Have a lovely day Rubina..

Amen to that, Rubina! There is nothing more annoying than turning up information and getting to the bottom of a problem, and then not knowing if the original poster has bothered to check if they have received a reply to their post. In my experience many of the culprits seem to be 'casuals'; they join the Forum, post an enquiry, and then disappear without trace.

Having said that, they are by far and away in the minority. The vast majority of members are quick to reply, and acknowledge assistance given.

    Hi Rubina

WHY in deed. I was only raising the same point with Elsabels a couple of weeks ago. At the time I had 8 unanswered posts, some just requesting more info so I could help them further with their research. I know some might not have replied because of time differences and others might be because they only look at weekends, but it would be nice to receive some feed back only if it was thanks for looking or have found the answers via another source. I also believe that sometimes there is a fixed idea on who family members are and people do not like the idea that they have gone down the wrong line so ignore help offered.

Good job I like research for myself and others, as do most other members on this site and long may we continue to give and receive.

Funny you should say that Finbar. Even though it appears that I first joined this site in 2006 it is only over the last few weeks that I have played any active part. I made some entries on the NETWORK and found several possible matches. I checked the Usernames against the list of members and found that even though these people had been members for two or maybe three years they had posted only once at the time of joining, or in one case not at all.

There is another side to this subject - those people who make a plea for help and a few days later complain bitterly that no help has been forthcoming and then castigating other members for being mean and unhelpful.

    It takes all sorts !!

    Hello!

Gosh I was in a grumpy mood altogether last night! I don't do the research for thanks at all but because I enjoy doing it. What frustrates me is getting involved with researching someone and then not getting an answer to queries for clarification so I can delve deeper. Still I take all the points made, particularly that not everyone checks posts every day. I will carry on quietly!
