Thread: William John Johnson

My brickwall is my great grandfather William John Johnson, he married my great grandmother Catherine Mills at St. Peter's church in Liverpool on April 1st 1872. William was a seaman so he never seemed to be around at the time of the census after he married (1881, 1891) and I can't find him or his father on the 1861 census either. He was born in 1852 and his father's name was Stephen Johnson, one of the family stories is that William was born in Dublin barracks, and whether his father Stephen was Irish or a british soldier stationed there I don't know. Apparently William went to the USA in the very late nineteenth century,the family story is that he jumped ship and took a job there. I would really appreciate any information anyone can give me.
