    Exclamation John Coles

    Hi, What a good idea!
My stumbling block of many years standing (?) is my 4x Great-Grandfather John Coles. He died in Gloucestershire in 1844. 1841 census shows that neither he or his wife, Mary, were born in that county. Age given shows that he would have been born c. 1770. I've looked into every John Coles/Mary of about the right age, but even though I've found marriages with no children recorded in the same county there are so many there's no way of knowing which is him. I'm beginning to think I might have to wait until I can ask him in person!
Good luck to whoever gets chosen-do let us know the outcome.
    Thanks,
    Janet

I have no details of marriage or fathers' names. John was described as a carpenter in 1841 and as 'Clerk of Works at Sezincote' (Gloucestershire) in his will.

I've been unable to connect Fanny to the rest of the family. I begin to wonder is she was the daughter of John & Mary's unmarried daughter, Martha, who d. 1834 aged 32. This is just conjecture.
Thanks for taking the trouble to think about this for me.
