I'm looking for the parents of Thomas James Smith 1850 who married Jane Ann Purll (1849) in 1872 in St Olave Southwark. His fathers name was also Thomas James Smith according to that marriage certificate and his occupation was listed as "porter". That's all I can find.

There are a lot of Thomas SMITH'S b 1850 in London, one I have found in 1891 has a wife Jane and is linked to a tree!

I am not sure of much with Thomas James Smith 1850, but the records I think apply to him are,
Class: RG11; Piece: 707; Folio: 48; Page: 20; Class: RG12; Piece: 369; Folio 115; Page 5; - And England & Wales Free Birth Record 1850 Rotherhithe I believe he married Jane Ann Purll on 27th October 1872 at St Olave Southwark. His Father listed as Thomas James Smith(occupation "Porter") on Marriage cert. I can't find his father anywhere in the record and am not sure about anything before 1881. My great grandfather was Frederick Thomas Smith born 1882 who I believe was born to Jane and Thomas and appears on Census 1891 Class: RG12; Piece: 381; Folio 14; Page 22; -

do you have the birth cert of frederick thomas . or his marriage cert and fathers occupation. are you certain that thomas and jane are your g grandfathers parents.
i can see a thomas smith, son of a thomas smith , a porter born 1849 but it isnt your rotherhithe thomas.

I hope you can see the Birth certificate. If not, its dated 12/2/1882at 15 Windmill Lane. Mother Jane Ann Smith formerly Purll. Father Thomas James Smith,occupation "stoker". Registered 17/3/1882 in St Paul Deptford. With a name like Smith I cannot be 100% that this is the right Frederick Thomas Smith, but it is the only one in the entire record that fits the available facts.
ok looking at this i agree that the 1991 census entry is the right family and that you have the right 1872 marriage. as has been pointed out jane ann purl cannot have been born 1860 . this is born out on the 1881 census which gives her age as 30 so born 1851

should have put that the 1881 census is definitely the right one as the address is 15 windmill lane

living next door is a henry purl aged 50, with wife and family. all born rotherhithe except rica born ramsgare
