Morris Family Lived in Cardiff

I am trying to trace my Grandfather with Zero success at present. His name was William Robert Morris Born either Bristol or cardiff approx 1860 +or -. He became a Bristol Channel Pilot & Master Mariner he married Henrietta Smart around 1890 in South Wales. His 1st Son who was also William Robert Morris was born in Cardiff and became A channel pilot operating from Cardiff during the War he was in the Royal Navy and had the rank of Captain after the War he returned to being a Channel Pilot, he lived with his wife Ellen Elizabeth foremerly Shelley, at 63 Princess street Cardiff they had one Son Brian Morris Born 1930 died 2001 who became Lord Baron Brian Morris of Castle Morris & sat in the house of Lords. My Grandfathers 2nd Son Was John Thomas Morris Born Cardiff 1899 died 1978 he was in the Army 1st World War joined RAF 1926 to 1948, then worked in the post Office.

Hi MaxweII - So far I have found in 1891 WaIter Smart married to Sarah with a son WaIter and Frederick Smart married to Martha who was much oIder than him with a son DanieI - WiIiiam is evasive

Thank you for the information. The Smart family you mention are residents of 25 Morgan Street Barry. My grandmother Henrietta formerly a Smart at the same address was married to william Robert Morris, who sadly died around the age of Forty in at present unknown circumstances before 1899. Being a Mariner & Bristol Channel Pilot who must have spent days if not weeks at sea where he may well have lost his life. This may be the reason he is so difficult to trace.

Dear MaxweII - I have found this record...in the BMD registers however at what point was he married to Henrietta was it before 1889?

Thank you for the reply. My Grandfather William Robert Morris married Henrietta a guess 1886 she was born in 1862 my Father John Thomas Morris was born in 1899 so my Grandfather must have alive in 1898. and my Grandmother was a widow in 1901. So my Grandfather would have died between 1899 and 1901. Thank you again for your help.

Have you checked the records at glamro.gov.uk of Pilots meetings etc

also archiveswales.org.uk who have records for Cardiff Pilotage auth

Do you have William Robert MORRIS's birth certificate, if not how do you know he is a child of the 'marriage'

Just to thank you for the information. The knowledege I have about my Grandfather was from my Father, but also from my parents Marrage Cert under Rank or profession of father it stated Master Mariner William Robert Morris so I take that to be true until I can prove otherwise. The date 1859 seems to fit I have no other documentation. Will check in areas you suggest and thank you again for being so helpful.
