Re Jack Matthews enquirery.
I have been desperately trying to find out about Jack Matthews and Florence Oliver for absolutely ages without any success!!
I hope this is of help.
Working backwards..... Gladys Ethel Mary Matthews-Vousden was my Grandmother She was married to Frederick John White. Scarborough Reg.Off. 20 May 1914. Her father is on the certificate as "Jack Matthews (Deceased)" His profession was "Actor".
I also have a free BMD search result stating that Florence Ellen Matthews married Ernest Vousden in
Dec 1899. (Lambeth 1d 930) This explains the addittion of Vousden to Gladys`s surname!
Ernest was a composer and musical director and was apparently very highly regarded in theatreland!
