Exclamation George Sapsford married Elizabeth Horsnail in Hatfield Broadoak, Essex

Hi my brick wall is over five years old and hopefully you may be able to help.
In 1794 George Sapsford married Elizabeth Horsnail in Hatfield Broadoak, Essex. A different George Sapsford (Sapsworth), my ancestor, married Rebecca Brewster in Hatfield Broadoak, Essex in 1797. Both couples were producing children in HBO during the same period.

My problem is that I can only find one Birth record: George Sapsford s.o. John Sapsford & Ann Wren 1770 Hatfield Broadoak. I cannot verify whose birth record this is. I suspect that they are cousins and have the same grandfather but again, cannot verify this fact.

    Hi Mike

Where did you find the records of the two marriages and the one birth ? Secondly how did yo arrive at the marriage in the first place? I cannot find anything for either. I tried loooking fo George on a 1841 census with no luck. Who were the children of george and Rebecca ? was he sometimes known as Sapsworth?

    Hello

As this is pre 1837 and certification, have you looked at the actual Parish records, it is likely that the Vicar / Church Warden would have made a note to distinguish between the two famillies!

    Hi,

Must admit to finding this site really confusing to use. Have placed a question with Big Help Requests in October 2010 re George Sapsford. Where does one look for replies?

    Regards

I haven't been to this post for ages so here goes.

Virtually all my info on the sapsfords has come from the original church registers which I was fortunate to be able to handle and photograph. This has now been denied by orders from high! I also have obtained a printout from the church as they were transcribed to computer.

However, the good news is that the Esses Records Office have now obtained the register records, at last, and put them on line for a small charge. I haven't had chance to look at them yet. This still will not help me to find the elusive birth of George Sapsford ( Sapsworth) as it is not there. I expect that he was baptised in a non- conformist church but have checked all the local records with no luck. Hence the brick wall.

    Hi Mike,
Just to answer your question "where to look for replies". I too have found this difficult but now I use the search box at the top of the page on the right and put in the name... and it seems to work.
You can also click on your own name and it brings up your posts.
yes. Seax now have this scheme where you pay £5.00 for 24 hour search.
Before they had parish registers(some) on for free and I found some of mine this way.

I see what you mean! I wish there was an easy answer I noticed a couple of family trees on Ancestry - Patmore also Speller had a different date of 16.8.1770. This seems to be the George who married Elizabeth. [oh the joys of inaccurate family trees] I am sorry to say I did notice one tree where he had died a year before he was born! However they may have different dates - but they have the same parents. The only thing I can suggest is that you write to the local records office/archives and ask for a quick search to be done. If you could get there in person - well you could have a lovely ?exciting? day poring over all the hard to read parish records. But one of these options may be the only way now.
