Thread: James Ellis R.N.

I have been looking for years for information about my ancestor's birth date, birth place and parents. We think that he was born about 1794. We know that he was a Naval Surgeon and was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1813 but they have not been able to help other than to tell us that he passed exams to allow him to serve on ships of any rating. We know that he was the surgeon on several convict ships including the Diana. He married Elizabeth Fuzzey at Bromley about 1821. He had 6 children with Elizabeth. We know that he practised as a surgeon in both Sydney and Yass. We also found a marriage for him in NSW to Eliza although he was still married to Elizabeth.. He died in London in about 1863 and in his will he left everything that he had to Eliza his second wife. His two eldest sons Alfred and Edwin James Ellis emigrated to Australia. He may have had connections to Ireland. Any help to track him down would be much appreciated.
