I would like help to find the death of my G G Grandfather, Joseph James Minett born 19.9.1855, baptised at St Pancras Old Church 2.3.1856
married 13.10.1877 to Eleanor Sears Robinson at St Andrew's Islington. She died 1938 and is buried at Kingston. Joseph left his family about 1890 and the family lived with his parents, Alphonus and Sophia Minett, Soap Manufacturer at Kings Cross, London.When Alphonus died, he left everything to Eleanor"for her own exclusive use" and th eother sons were not mentioned in the will. Joseph's daughter Sophie married Harold Penny in 1902 and said her father was deceased, but in the 1911 census Eleanor was staying with her son Alphonso George Edward Minett ( my Grandfather) and is down as married, not widow or divorced/separated. I know she didn't remarry. The Joseph Minett in the Islington Workhouse in 1901 census is not he, but another Joseph whose father kept a coffeehouse. Thank you for any help. My Grandfather would only say that his father was a disgrace to the family name, but in what way, I dont' know.

A possibility, Farjannz, although the first name is slighrly different?

Josiah J Minett died Oct/Dec quarter of 1914, aged 60 yrs. Chelmsford Reg. Dist. Vol 4a Page 641 refers/

Hi There Farnjazz, On my Gt Gt Grandparents Marriage Certificate for the 20th September 1852 Islington one of the witnesses was a Jonathon or Jonathan Minnett..The other witness was A Wiggins....Thought this Jonathon/Jonathan might be one of your Ancestors?

Gt Gt Grandparents were Isaac Levitt and Selina Whittlesea

There are several marriages for Joseph MINETT post 1891, could he have remarried or altered his year of birth?

I dont' know of any Jonotha/on Minnetts in our family, nor does the name of the other witness ring any bells. Funnily enough, though, My Grandmother's maiden name was Levett. She came from Thetford in Norfolk and married my grandfather Alphonso George edward Minett who wwas born in Islington. It is his father's death I am hunting for.

Thank you Elsabels. Sorry to be so long getting back to you.

This is the last census I have found him on. This was when he left his wife and children, who then lived with his parents. My grandfather was born in 1896 and could just remember his father leaving home, but he would never say what happened to him, beyond that he was a disgrace to the family name. I have wondered if he then married bigamously, and am at present trying to relate dates of birth to the Josephs that married after 1891.

Hi Janet, If you send me your home email via pm I will send you a copy of my Gt Gt Grandparents Marriage Cert...Too much of a coincidence not to be a connection for us both..Isaac Levitt my Gt Gt Grandfather was born in Fleet Lincolnshire in 1825...From memory his Father John Levitt was born in Cambridgeshire...My Gt Grandma the daughter of Isaac Levitt was born in Islington as were her siblings..Are you sure your Grandmothers maiden name was Levett and not Levitt?
