Looking to find any more informatio on my wife's mother's maiden name Atherton
going back
John Atheron b 1834 Frodsham Earthen ware dealer(lived Stockport)
his father
Thomas b 1799 Preston same job
his father
Thomas b 1771 Preston d 1848 job unknown
trying to find out any thingabout them but would like to see how far back the Atheron's were earthen ware dealer ??

Just for info - the only Thomas Atherton to appear in the Preston section of Baines' 1825 Lancashire Directory is a tobacco pipe manufacturer living on North Road, Preston.
Re Earthenware Dealers. Strangely enough I found two (mother and daughter) among my ancestors, trading as earthenware dealers in Liverpool, in a similar timeframe to yours. It turned out they sold cheap pots from baskets at the kerbside in the town, and didn't have business premises. There were many following a similar trade in Liverpool, all classed as Earthenware dealers.

Hi Dom, oh good, lucky find, it will give us a good starting point. Looking at the census entries now, there sure are a plenty of Athertons.
