Exclamation Frances (Fanny) Cusick Born 22 Apr 1812

    Hello, what a great idea...

Would love to be able to discover how my ggg-grandmother Frances (Fanny) Cusick arrived in Tasmania. She was born 22 Apr 1812 in Country Cavan, Ireland and married Ephraim Digby in Tasmania in 1838.

I have been unable to find her arrival or any other information other than she had mother Kathleen and brothers John and Andrew (who both died in Tasmania, having been transported). Frances also died in Tasmania in 1886.

Have tried convict records without any luck and can get no help from Tas Archives.

Hope you have the time and interest to help solve this one for myself and my extended family (other descendants of this couple).

    Regards, Judith Wood.

Have you checked out the Historic Australian Newspapers at Newspaper Home for "Ephraim Digby" there's a large number of hits for him (some still coming the next few weeks) & one for the inquest into Frances' death.

This is a long shot but could this be a possible arrival for Frances:

    ShipSurnameFirstnameAgeDateCopyPage/sItemRemarksSeries
    Duchess of NorthumberlandCUSACKFrances-03/10/1836COD 39444, 48[4/1126], [4/2316.3]-NRS 906, 905

This is from the NSW Records - Miscellaneous Immigrants.
The ship left from Cork, Ireland but arrived in Sydney, I guess she could have continued on to Tasmania.
Unfortunately no age listed, but at this time the Duchess of Northumberland was one of the ships bringing out large numbers of unmarried females to Australia.

    Default Frances Cusack/Cusick

Thanks tawyn, only just found your posts. Unfortunately this isn't the right one. She was in Tassie and married well before that. If only. I was excited for a moment.

And to the other poster who sent me to County Cavan - that costs money to "have a look" - five euros no less, so unfortunately that wasn't helpful.

    Regards

Ephraim was married to Ellen Murphy in 1837 & married Frances in 1838. Are you sure she arrived before 1836?

There doesn't seem to be a "request for convicts to marry" on the Tasmania Achives. So either she was never a convict or had been transported young like Ephraim.

One of my replies got moderated - did you check out the suggestion that Frances may have been transported as Frances Gray on the Ship Hydery that a Bob Poole replied to one of your queries on another website.

Have only just found your posts - there doesn't seem to be any way that I get notified - but I may have to fix something. I did try Frances Gray and she was too old to be the same person. Thanks so much. Regards, Judith.
