Exclamation STONEHOUSE STUART or STEWART. Born c 1757

Born c1756 ; marriage entry states he's from Sunderland in the Palatinate of Durham. Stonehouse may not be given name but middle name, although passed down as first name to grandson. Married Suffolk 1787; by 1808 was Trinity Pilot at Harwich.
Been looking for 2 years for his parentage; no baptism found so far.

Would be most grateful for enthusiastic or academic help on this one.

I'm afraid this site isn't very intuitive and I can't see how to EDIT my above request so I am writing here. I seem to have lost my title for the above request, which was STONEHOUSE STUART or STEWART. Born c 1757 etc. was married to Elizabeth Randfield at Erwarton parish church in 1787. Their first 4 sons were called William, Richard, Henry and George.

Greetings - on Ancestry.com I found a Silvester Stonehouse Stuart death record in Tendring, Essex in 1841 and another death record for Stonehouse Stuart in 1853 in Tendring, Essex. A member of Ancestry has a public family tree (of course, for which no one can vouch the correctness of the research) which lists Stone house Stuart's spouse's name as Elizabeth Ann Randfield and his death in 1853 in Harwich, Essex. Children listed are: Henry, George, Jessi Randfield Stuart, Robert Randfield Stuart, Charles Randfield Stuart, Sarah Stuart and Samuel Stuart. No parents of Stonehouse are listed. This family tree has 8 attached records and 14 sources for Stonehouse Stuart. A different famiy tree has Stonehouse listed for his Mother's maiden name with a question mark so he/she is wondering whether that is a possibility. I wonder if the first name of "Silvester" and researching the possibility of a Stuart - Stonehouse parentage / marriage may help you. Good luck!

thanks for that - I have all those details and searching for a STUART - STONEHOUSE marriage has not yielded any results. The name Silvester does not appear until way down the tree and I feel is an influx from female marriage partners.

    Thanks for your input

    Hello

Would be most grateful for enthusiastic or academic help on this one.
As you are probably aware, most of the members of the site are enthusiasts in the world of Family History and Genealogy and like to pit their knowledge against the queries posted on the board/forums. Not sure what you mean by an academic!

You have probably found Stonehouse STUART listed in the St Nicholas Area of Essex as a Trinity pilot, as he was a person of 90+ when he died, have you thought of looking for an obituary in either the local press or a Trinity House publication!

On the 1851 census he is shown as being born Sunderland, have you checked the other entries against the 1861 census to make sure that there is not a slip up by the enumerator in that he hasn't dittoed too many times resulting in the birth place being a line out!

As you know there are a couple of trees on A******* and the subject has been covered on at least 2 other forums such as this ( the more contributions the better!).

Perhaps you could give your last positive information on the person and maybe his wife Elizabeth and places YOU have searched to save duplication of research

Have already done all those things and have given all the definite details which have emerged ESP by stating what is in the marriage entry - that he is def from Sunderland. No point in repeating all the info in census entries which have been scrutinized by many over and over again.

Oops - submitted before finished - (can webmaster please add an editing feature) -

By academic I mean there may be professionals out there who can see alternative avenues to explore. Have checked all Pilot records at Tyne & Wear & searched Northumberland records office too.

The obituary is a good idea - what's the procedure for finding one?

    Hello SSIII

Your comment woil be passed to the 'webmaster'

My experience of Professionals is that they may wish to charge!

The papers to look in would initially those closest to the area Stonhouse spent his years in Harwich Essex , I would expect that he would be well known in the locality and then of course he was a person of years so may even be one of the oldest residents!

The Essex RO Wharf Rd, Chelmsford CM2 6YT 01245 244644 seax.essexcc.gov.uk woiuld be able to assist in locating the papaers of the day

    The other is nationalarchives.co.uk

Also Trinity House may have soem records recording at least his death although their records may only start around this time!

The 1823 Piogt's trade directory is on line at this site historyhouse.co.uk
