Thread: Ellen Robertson

Hi,
My brickwall and has been for the last few years is my greatgrandma Ellen Robertson. Here is what information I have on her. Although I have never found a birth for her I have her marriage certificate which says her fathers name was William Robertson deceased upholsterer, she married James William Hughes on Christmas day 1902 in Sheffield. Ellen was age 19 which makes her birth 1883 James age 20, I also have them on the 1911 census which states that Ellen was born in Liverpool. I have never found a birth and have never found Ellen on the 1891 census. My father did tell me that Ellen had two older brothers one of which was called Billy both these brothers went to live in Lincoln. I have posted this before so sorry if you have heard all this before from me.

I found a Helen Robertson on the 1901 census working as a domestic in a newsagents at attercliffe which just happens to be a couple of streets from where her husband to be James William Hughes lived whom she married in 1902 but it said born Scotland. This could be my Ellen I suppose but The 1911 census is a definite but that has her born Liverpool. I find it very confusing, I have looked on the Scottish census 1901 and 1891 as well but no luck.

I don't have Ellens death certificate but she died in the sixtys, I have never thought about an obituary, If I could get her birth certificate would it give me any info that would help me? On the 1911 census Ellen was married to James William Hughes living in Attercliffe with three children born 1903, 1906 and 1910. They went on I think to have nine children two of which died as children. My problem is I have never been able to find her birth or on the 1891 census with her family.

Thanks for info I dont knoiw if this could be my Ellen as she is a bit older on this census the thing is though Ellen and James had a daughter named Beatrice. Is there a place of birth for her father William on the census as my father told me he thought William came from Scotland but he is not sure. It would be brill if at long last I could have found her.
