I had a look for the baptism but couldn't find it. Have you the names of any of his children which might help to locate the marriage

no i am sorry - i am trying to eradicate this edward from being the father of our ancestor john sephton born 1819 (bap april) as he specified an edward sephton father on his two wed certs (he was wed 3 times) although on his baptism his mother was a spinster - i have searched all other edwards with no avail, and this burial could be the right one if i can find out about him, and find no marriage as elizabeth may not have been wed to him, and it could account for the reason i cannot find an edward in 1841 or 51 census, with thanks.
This is the only John born 1819 Liverpool and christened at St Peter. no father listed. Also looked at a number of other sephtons born in the same time frame and this was the only one with Elizabeth as a mother.

thank you- yes i have this baptism, its edward i need to find now, as i said need to eradicate this one from my list , i cannot find elizabeths birth have only found one who,s parents were robert and charlotte and that turned out to be the wrong one, elizabeth had john in brownlow hill liverpool, so she must be from that area i would have thought. been banging my head on this one for over two yrs now, even been to liverpool record office several times to no avail.
There is this Edward Sephton:
Baptisms: 28 Jun 1795 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Edward Sefton - Son of Robert Sefton & Charlotte
Born: 23 May 1795
Abode: Lionel St
Occupation: Slater etc
Register: Baptisms 1793 - 1799, Page 41, Entry 33
I know the surname is not spelled with a 'ph' in the above, but there is another baptism in 1802 to the same parents Robert and Charlotte and it is spelled Sephton this time:
Baptisms: 28 Mar 1802 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Robert Sephton - Son of Robert Sephton & Charlotte
Born: 10 Nov 1801
Abode: Lionel St.
Occupation: Plaisterer
Register: Baptisms 1799 - 1810, Page 129, Entry 5
The occupation of 'slater' is interesting in the first entry - same as the Edward who was married to Catherine, so perhaps his brother?
Do you have an occupation for the Edward listed on John's marriage certs?
thank you, this edward 1795 died age 4, the occ was stonemason on marriage certs,,but i have discounted robert and charlottes children as followed them through and no link was found, but thanks for trying.
The only baptism records for children of Edward Sephton who is a stone mason in Liverpool are with wife Mary (1841 Burlington Steet) and wife Sarah (1842 - 1849, Mile End, Leicester St and Tarleton St) but these are a bit late for your Edward.
I can't find any baptisms for a mason Edward with wife Elizabeth, though there are some around the same time as your John where parents are Edward and Elizabeth, and he is a labourer, a shoemaker and a miller.
I can find burial records for the two Edwards, sons of Edward and Catherine, but not for Edward son of Robert and Charlotte.
It's possible that your John may have 'invented' a father for himself!
If you need any further details on any of the above let me know. Good luck!
