In 1871, Henry can be found as a groom at Thirkleby Warren House, Kirby Grindalythe, Malton Reg. Dist, Yorks.
Householder David Rowley, Farmer 422 acres.

Henry Pickering 22yrs Groom b. Frodingham.

    Class: RG10; Piece: 4822; Folio: 114; Page: 2 refers.

Unable to locate William on same census.

    Thanks Finbar

No likely deaths show for William post 1861 and Henry post 1871 so I wonder were they are?

Could this be my William or wishful thinking?
    1871 - RG10/4794/28/22
    1881 - RG11/4755/127/16
    1891 - RG12/3923/145/13
    1901 - RG13/4486/7/6
A check of Driffield BMD show only 2 William birth's 1840-1843.One each in 1841 and 1842.Mine is 1842.There is also death in 1842.No other William born Driffield 1841/42 shows in census

The only post 1871 death I can see that might account for Henry's disappearance is:-

Henry Pickering born about 1848, March quarter 1874, Beverley Reg. District. Vol. 9d Page 71 refers.

    Thanks Finbar

I guess finding the marriage and getting the cert will give father and his occupation.Frodringham is in the Driffield registration district and close to Driffield.

    Hello Ed

Oddly I have picked up this family, William & Jane, Driffield being the BDM area for N Frodingham what i am struggling to find is the marriage of William PICKERING = Jane CLARK ( E), 1861 - 1871 there first born census child is not until the 1881 cenusus and yes the family has connections in the Hull area, it was shown as William's mother Sarah's birth place

Couple of sites you might like, there is also quite an actice Family History section for this part of yorkshire, including a MI listing....

    Thanks

!871 shows Jane born Bridlington Quay and William a merchant seaman.Free BMD shows a Jane Clark born Bridlington Mar 1843 and a marriage Mar 1866 William Pickering/Jane Clark.OK so far but what could account for a delay of 14 years before the birth of their first child Robert Clark Pickering?I realize William was a seaman but 14 years----?

    Ed
