I am trying to find a marriage to my grandad james white born 1873 in warwickshire.we thought he married a lucy ?no surname born we think hope ? flintshire in 1870.she died in bradford yorkshire on 31 st january 1915.in the 1911 census I find them living in bradford [horton district] where she declares she was born in hope.this sounds a good lead as my grandad a coachman moved around and was in the shropshire/cheshire area at the time of the supposed marriage.my mother said she was from Tushingham in cheshire born 20 april 1905 as edith g white.any information or leads greatly appreciated as this is the only dead end I have in my family tree.

Hello James1,Do you have a copy of your Mothers Birth Certificate as it would state her Mothers maiden name..We need to establish you first have this Certificate to confirm your Grandmas Maiden name...Also was this a first marriage you are looking for as I am a little confused? You mention Edith White born 1905 so who was this your Grandma? I,m sorry but I am not understanding some of your post such as names and dates.

hi marion,edith g white was my mother born 1905 in tushingham.lucy white was her mother and I do not have a birth certificate for mum,she never had one.her mother lucy may not have married,just taken my grandads name.the first time I came across lucy was in bradford,she was a lodging house keeper.this would have been a first marriage but I can find no record of it.

HI James 1943 now I get the picture so thanks for taking the time out to explain...Your Mother would have had her birth registered for I believe it was against the law in 1905 not to register a birth..It would be a step in the right direction to try and obtain this certificate regardless..
A birth certificate is a vital record that documents the birth of a child.

Of course Chelmsford is not in Cheshire...

What did the G stand for?

I searched birth years from 1904 to 1906 and there was only one other Edith G White but born in Wales..

You think he married a Lucy? Did your Mother ever speak or mention her Aunts or Uncles names that you remember connected to Lucy being the Mother? If so a rough birth year and place for them if known please.. You also state you are not sure if your Mother had her birth registered so are you 100% she was born in Cheshire in 1905? Would still like to know what the G in her name stands for?

hi marion,the g is for gertrude,she used to say she thought she was from cheshire but that may not be the case.her mother was from wales which she says on the 1911 census.she never had a borth certificate and my sister went to somerset house many years ago for help but they could not find her either.dont remember her talking about any relatives but I know james white my grandads parents are buried in oswestry.they lived there for several years.confusing I know,its lovely to have help like this after wondering about mums family for all these years.james

James I am only too pleased to be able to help in any way I can..Are you prepared to purchase any of the birth certs I mentioned about for 1905
as one could be your Mothers? Here they are again...For Cheshire

Can I also suggest you Google search Cheshire Family History Society as there are a few out there and maybe contact one or two in regards to your Mother's birth.

I have found a birth for the year 1909 but not for Cheshire...

Have a little think about getting the birth certs and Google the Cheshire Family Hisory Society..I am always around if you need my help.
