Exclamation Neko - Hannah Smith 1785 of Colchester

hard to choose, I have so many, but I'll start with the most recent and post one a week.

Hannah Smith (or Turner or Wheeler-but all my documentation says Smith)
    b. Dec 12 1785 of Colchester, Essex
    d. 30 Aug 1874 Navarre/Bethlehem, Stark Co. Ohio, U.S.A.
    m. 12 Oct 1806, St. Martins, Colchester
to Joseph Cross, Jr. (Quaker birthright, his paternal line traced to circa 1600)

Hannah failed to have her death recorded, and her obituary is as lacking in details as is possible for an extant obituary-name, date of death, place of death, place of burial, undertaker. nothing more. there's little in the way of a paper trail-she didn't even make it onto the 1841 census, though why I cannot fathom unless she was living in a section of London that does not have extant 1841 census records. Joseph is in his mother's household in the 1841,

woops, didn't get to finish before it posted.
...with no sign of Hannah or their children anywhere in England. either some census has yet to be put on Ancestry, or she and her children just aren't on there. we are told they lived in London before coming to America on Oct 23 1843. somewhere in the Tower Hamlets general area, I suspect, as that is the known area of residence for their eldest child.

so who were Hannah's parents? they are not listed as witnesses at Joseph and Hannah's wedding. the wedding was in the CofE because the Quaker meeting did not aprove of the marriage. Joseph and Hannah baptised their children in the Wesleyan Methodist church in Colchester, which can be found online. also, here is my url, best to check them and see what I already know about them beyond these notes so you don't waste time researching what I've already researched.

thank you for helping me find out who Hannah's parents were.

No trace of likely birth/parents under any of surnames on IGI or Family Search Pilot Site.

Have you ever had a parish register look up for her birth? There are a lot of parishes in Colchester but with an exact date it might be possible to find something

    HI Neko,

    Could this be her,
Hannh Cross aged 55yrs - living by Independent means, Kings Lynn, St Margaret, Norfolk. Ref No - HO107/0786 - Could they have moved to here from Cholchester. Maybe Joseph was just visiting his mothers house in 1841. Do you have childrens DOB's. Do you know if she divorced? there a a lot of possibilities, if you have any other info for us it would help enormously. Where do the names Turner or Wheeler come from?......

    Hi Neko,

There is a baptism for a Hannah Smith on29 Dec 1785 but it's Warwickshire. not sure how far this is away from Essex so maybe it's not her, but probably worth a look if only to omit from our research. RG4/piece 3634/Folio 16 - at the Unitarian chapel Warwickshire - FATHER - Edward Smith - MOTHER - Sara Smith.
