Exclamation Brummieboy - Sarah Oldfield (Nee Browning)

Post approved by Jon. First big Help

I would be so grateful to receive help with finding the death, or possible remarriage, of my Gt Grandmother Sarah Oldfield (Nee Browning)

Sarah Browning was born 9 Jan 1864 in Tanter Street, Birmingham. Sarah was married to my Gt Grandfather James John Wescott Oldfield in Birmingham on 2 Jul 1882.

James went of to America in the late 1800's and only returned in 1913. Sarah is on the 1901 census living as a lodger in Great Russell Street in Birmingham. After this there is nothing, I have scoured the BMD indexes without success.

Sarah is my final stumbling block, and any help would be mightily appreciated.

    Barrie.

    Hi Barrie

    Deaths Mar 1922
    Oldfield Sarah 56 Birmingham 6d 419

This age is not quite right (about two years out) but that could be because no one she knew registered her death and it could have been an estimate or she want not sure of her own date of birth?

    Regards
    Gill

Sorry Gill, this is my fault for not giving all the related info. That Sarah Oldfield was the Sister-in-Law of Sarah my Gt Grannie. That Sarah was married to Michael William Oldfield, the brother of James Oldfield. Sorry about that.

    Barrie.

I should add that the "family story" connected with Sarah, is that she committed suicide by drowning herself in the River Rea in Rea Street in Birmingham.

The death will be registered in the area in which it occurred, and will probably be in the local press (see above)

Coroners reports are filed in date order so you need to find one to get the other. The death may not necessarily be recorded in the quarter it occured, but when the Coroner notifies the registrar

Have you found the children on the 1911 census?

Also a lot of coroners reports werent kept , a grt grandmother of mine committed sucide that way . I got in touch with the Record Office to find who the coroner was at that time to find papers not kept . However as Astoria said the Inquest was published in the local paper were she died.

I hope it's ok to post this link, appears to be a free forum and may prove to be useful.

Online-- Birmingham Newspaper Death Notices 1874 - 1907

Sorry scrap that, just realised it's too early, I'll leave the link though in case it helps others.
